Alfred Currier
Al Currier is renowned for his dynamic paintings of Northwest landscapes and people. A lifelong artist, he received his formal education at Columbus College of Art and Design and the American Academy of Art in Chicago, where he earned his degree in fine art. He is an artist member of the prestigious Palette and Chisel Academy Chicago.
Primarily a plein air painter, Currier prefers to respond to his subjects personally while immersed in the spirit of the moment. He paints rapidly to maintain his enthusiasm, emotion, and spontaneity.
In addition to creating expressionist paintings, Currier also excels in painting abstracts. He creates both styles of paintings using an impasto technique, creating a highly textured surface with large brushes and palette knives. His signature bold strokes and use of primary colors add to the dramatic energy radiating from the canvases.
His work has been honored by many different groups including the Frye Museum in Seattle, Washington; the Knickerbocker 42nd Annual Exhibition in New York City; Parkersburg Art Center, West Virginia; and Chicago Office of Fine Arts. His work has been featured in many publications, including the cover of American Artist.
