Lori Aylesworth
Lori Aylesworth is a native of the Midwest, where she grew up on a farm in Northwest Indiana. She has been actively interested in nature and art since early childhood, and attended Indiana University as a Fine Arts major. She has made her home in Leavenworth, WA, in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, since the early 1980’s.
After years of exploring oil and acrylic painting, Lori turned to watercolor and was hooked with all of the possibilities offered by this medium, as well as mixed media. She has studied with Robert and Sharon Long, Tery Isaac, Jack Hines, Robert Bateman, and David Barker, and enjoys the options of using oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, ink, and pastel in her work, allowing for a wider avenue of artistic expression. Lori is a charter member of the Artist Guild of Leavenworth. She has painted many commissioned works and also shows in various art shows in and around the Pacific Northwest. Her work can be seen in the Miller Fine Art Gallery in Leavenworth, WA.
Artist’s Statement
I paint because I love the act of painting, the form of expression, and the thought process that is involved. It is an integral part of who I am, as I have always been pulled to express myself through the tactile and visual experience of line, color, and form.
My inspiration comes through observation, along with invention. The main criteria in choosing subject matter is that it creates in me a sense of wonder and awe, a moment in time, whether it be dramatic or subtle. Equally important, I try to communicate to the viewer an awareness, a consciousness, about our natural surroundings and the importance and beauty that they hold. Whether the subject is grand or common, my hope is that the viewer will take a moment to consider the necessity of preserving our ecological integrity and walk away with a more mindful approach in the stewardship of our natural environment.
